Acupressure therapy, also known as pressure acupuncture, has been used by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for thousands of years. The practice consists of applying pressure on certain acupressure points that are located along the meridians of the body, in this way it can promote relaxation and treat some conditions.

Natural medicine on pressure points.

Although the traditional belief is that acupressure therapy works by balancing the qi (or chi) in a person’s body, interpreting that this is the life force that runs through the body.  Western practitioners attribute its effectiveness to factors such as reduced muscle tension, improved circulation, and stimulation of brain chemicals known as endorphins that act as natural pain relievers.

The pressure on this point is ideal to get rid of headaches. It also helps relieve neck pain, toothache, shoulder pain, arthritis, constipation, and hangovers. It is located in the fleshy area between the thumb and the index finger. When the thumb and finger have joined, it is the point of most tension in this muscle. Press and massage this point for a couple of minutes on each hand.

2. Pericardium for nausea and vomiting.

The pressure point, called the pericardium, is effective in treating vomiting and nausea and vomiting. It can also reduce stomach upset, headaches, chest pain, and carpal tunnel syndrome pain. It is located between the two large tendons on the inside of the wrist, as shown in the image above. Press this point with your index and middle finger for two minutes and you can repeat as needed.

3. The third eye for eye strain and chronic fatigue.

The third eye pressure point is used to improve memory and relax the mind, relieve chronic fatigue and reduce stress, it also helps treat eyestrain and insomnia, it can also help decongest the nose. The third eye pressure point is between the eyebrows and at the top of the nose. You can press it using the middle finger, press gently for a minute and release, you can repeat it several times a week.

4. Sea point of tranquility, for emotional health.

This point helps to restore calm in the body and reduces anxiety, nervousness and depression. It is located in the center of the sternum. Press this point with your hands together, like the prayer position, fingers pointing upward, and thumb knuckles pressing into the breastbone. Press for a couple of minutes while taking slow, deep breaths.

This is an example of alternative methods to treat different ailments and physical problems, but it is necessary that each condition be treated from the root, and truly understanding what its causes are.
