Calendula as a natural remedy
This is not only an ornamental plant, but also has a healing effect. It can be easily grown in any garden and opens its beautiful orange-yellow flowers between June and October.
In these flowers and in the flower, head are the valuable active ingredients that make it so important among the natural remedies that grandmothers recommend.
This home remedy has anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, cleansing and analgesic properties. Therefore, it can be used for skin blemishes, wounds, sunburns, warts, gastrointestinal disorders, constipation, hemorrhoids, inflammation, varicose veins, headaches, and menstrual cramps.
The calendula is an integral part of many medicines and cosmetics. Whether in the form of tea, ointment or tincture, we will tell you how to use it on your own quickly and easily.
Calendula oil helps with wounds and skin diseases
To make oil with these flowers, place a handful of flowers in a jar. Coat the flowers with a high-quality vegetable oil (for example, cold-pressed olive oil) until they are completely covered.
Close the jar and place it in a sunny spot. Shake it off every now and then. After about three weeks, the calendula oil is ready, and you can then filter it. It is best to keep it in a cool bottle in a cool place for about a year.
The oil is mainly applied outside. Helps with wounds, skin diseases, fungal diseases and as skin protection. In the summer, it also helps with sunburn
Make calendula ointment yourself
The calendula ointment is readily prepared with 30 ml of calendula oil and 2 g of beeswax. Mix the oil with the wax and heat both in a water bath. When the beeswax has melted, you can stir everything to give it an even dough.
Check if the ointment is flexible. This is best done by allowing a few drops of the mixture to cool on a plate. If the dough is too hard, add more oil, if it is too runny, more wax. If you are satisfied with the consistency, let the ointment cool until it is warm.
Then you can put everything in a container with a lid. Refrigerated, it can be kept for about a year. The areas of application are the same as for calendula oil.
Calendula tincture helps against varicose veins
To make a calendula tincture, you will need half a jar of calendula flowers and about 50% alcohol (for example, a homemade brandy). The procedure is similar to the production of calendula oil.
Close the glass well, so that the alcohol does not evaporate. Place the jar in a sunny spot and shake it well from time to time. After about two weeks of waiting, the tincture will be ready.
The tincture externally treats bruises, sprains, varicose veins, burns and inflamed skin. Used internally, the tincture helps with indigestion, stomach and intestinal pain, headache, and menstrual pain.
Calendula tea helps with sleep disorders
The calendula tea is easy to do by yourself. One teaspoon of chopped calendula flowers is enough for one cup. Add hot water and cover the mug. After about ten minutes the tea will be ready. Now all you have to do is remove the flowers.
The calendula tea helps especially with headaches, problems in the digestive tract, nausea, sleep disorders and menstrual and menopausal ailments.
